Employees: Law offices typically have many employees other than lawyers. According to lawyers.com, these employees include law clerks that do legal research and help lawyers prepare cases. Also, paralegals provide critical support to lawyers. In addition, legal secretaries handle the administrative details and procedural requirements and legal receptionists are the firm's initial contact with potential clients. Other administrative personnel such as accountants, bookkeepers, librarians, billing and accounts receivable and human resources personnel may also be part of a law firm’s staff. Setting: Most law firms are located in office buildings of various sizes, ranging from modest one-story buildings to tall skyscrapers. Some solo practitioners practice out of their homes. On the inside, many firms are notorious for using jaw-dropping interior design in a huge space and fabulous views. Attire: Dress is generally more formal, although some firms allow “casual Fridays.” Required Skills: If you’re thinking of working in a law office environment, understand there is lot of work to be done by certain deadlines and you will be expected to shoulder the load and perform without fail. You must be a self-starter capable of multi-tasking and taking direction from multiple bosses.
